Lela Lee first created Angry Little Asian Girl after viewing offensive and chauvinistic cartoons in a festival of animation. She channeled her intense anger into the making of a cartoon about herself. As a child, Lee was ridiculed and humiliated for something she could not help: her gender and her ethnicity. Those experiences influenced her comic strip, where she could address everything she had to go through growing up, while realizing that the situations she endured offer humorous misunderstandings and opportunity for redress.
