Jack DuVall is the founding director of the International Center on Nonviolent Conflict, an institution that collaborates with like-minded nongovernmental organizations to educate the global public about the history of nonviolent conflict and to act as a catalyst to stimulate nonviolent resolution of conflicts. In open or closed societies where rights or self-determination are at issue, the Center seeks to influence policies and media coverage and to educate activists.

This event is part of the Caltech Y's Social Activism Speaker Series, which focuses attention on current social and political issues by inviting prominent activists to speak to the Caltech community and the public, and to share their experiences and perspectives.
