Written and directed by Preston Sturges Running time: 99 minutes
At a time when most Hollywood films revered the home front, this film takes a not so gentle poke at the sacred institution of American motherhood. Trudi Kockenlocker (Betty Hutton), a small town girl with a yen for soldiers, marries one after a wild night and can't remember his name (she thinks it's something like Private Ratski-watski). When she finds herself pregant, she enlists the help of a friend and sometime flame (Eddie Bracken), who shares the credit when Trudi gives birth to America's secret weapon in the war against Fascism.
The free film screening will be followed by a discussion with Thomas Doherty, Professor of American Studies at Brandeis University, and
Catherine Jurca, Associate Professor of English at Caltech..
