Giving Their All to Improve the Gene Pool

Wendy Northcutt worked in basic neurobiological research at Stanford, and holds a degree in Molecular Biology from UC Berkeley. She is the creator of www.DarwinAwards.com. Darwin Awards honor those who give their all to improve the gene pool—by not contributing to it.

She began writing The Darwin Awards in 1993, and has been profiled on Salon.com, NPR's All Things Considered, Conan O'Brien, in USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, and others.

Darwin Awards stories are modern-day morality tales. After hearing Northcutt's cautions, you will never again consider lighting a fire under your car because the engine is cold. You will never again jump out a window in Serbia to avoid a tsunami in Sumatra, nor will you save time and money by refilling the brake fluid with dishwashing liquid...and neither will these Darwin Award winners!
