With the confirmation of Judge Sonia Sotomayor, the relationship between the American public and the Supreme Court is once again on the front burner. In The Will of the People: How Public Opinion Has Influenced the Supreme Court and Shaped the Meaning of the Constitution, Friedman argues that the Court, which has ruled definitively on such issues as abortion, school prayer, and military tribunals in the War on Terror, has always been subject to a higher power: the American public.

Copies of his new book will be available for sale at the event, which will be followed by an on-stage book-signing.
