Peter Ostroushko is a tremendously talented fiddle and mandolin player, as well as guitarist, from Minneapolis, Minnesota. This will be his first visit to Caltech, and his only Southern California performance on this tour.

Peter is perhaps best known for his long association with Garrison Keillor's A Prairie Home Companion radio show, where he was a regular for many years and continues to be a frequent guest. He has also been a highly-in-demand session musician, playing with such performers as Greg Brown, Robin and Linda Williams, Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris and others. He has recorded and toured in a number of formats, including with Norman Blake, Peter Ostroushko and the Sacred Heart Band, the Mando Boys, and as a solo artist. His touring has taken him throughout North America and Europe, from The Ark in Ann Arbor, Michigan to the Winnipeg Folk Festival. He has eight solo albums, dating from 1985.

Peter will be accompanied by phenomenal guitarist Dirk Freymuth, whose interests and experience include rock, jazz, medieval, classical, as well as traditional music. He is a current member of the Brazilian music ensemble The Seven. He has played ragtime, performed as a member of a Renaissance ensemble Circa 1500 in London, and was a member of the Baroque Orchestra of Ireland while living in Dublin. While he will be playing acoustic guitar during this concert, he also has talents on the lute, banjo, viola da gamba, electric guitar, and other stringed instruments.

Peter and Dirk are equally as adept at driving dance tunes as they are with sweet, heart-breakingly beautiful pieces. Among other things, they will be performing music from Peter's acclaimed new album Coming Down from Red Lodge.
