Remembering the Past, Imaging the Future--Diagnosing and Treating Alzheimer's Disease

A panel of researchers will discuss how the latest innovations in imaging techniques for visualizing pathology in the living brain of Alzheimer's disease patients will impact the diagnosis of the disease, and will present ideas for predicting Alzheimer's in individuals who have not yet shown symptoms. Results of testing the newest methods for treating this disorder, and novel treatments on the horizon, will be described.

Panelists include:

Robert Lee Hotz (moderator)
Los Angeles Times science writer
John Mazziotta (diagnostic and presymptomatic detection)
Professor, Departments of Neurology, Radiological Sciences, and Medical and Molecular Pharmacology, at the David Geffen School of Medicine, UCLA; Chair, Department of Neurology; Director, UCLA Brain Mapping Center; Associate Director, UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute
Scott Fraser (novel imaging technologies)
Anna L. Rosen Professor of Biology, Caltech
Jeffrey Cummings (new therapeutic strategies)
Director, UCLA Alzheimer's Center; President of the board of the Alzheimer's Association
