The passion of the Calder Quartet was apparent in 2002 when it won the Coleman Competition Saunderson Prize, and again with the 2014 Avery Fisher Career Grant.

Inspired by innovative American artist Alexander Calder, the quartet's desire to bring immediacy and context to performances creates artfully crafted musical experiences. Formed at USC's Thornton School of Music, the quartet is known for work with leading and emerging composers as well as rock and visual arts.

"The superb Calder Quartet showed that the time-honored string quartet format still provides fertile ground for innovation and surprise," wrote the New York Times.
