Drawn from the principal players of London's world-famous orchestra, the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields Chamber Ensemble was created in 1967 to perform the larger chamber works—from quintets to octets—with players who customarily work together, instead of the usual string quartet with additional guests. The celebrated and much recorded result is "A band of virtuosi who could generate the sound of a chamber orchestra, who displayed the polish of a string quartet, who thought as one...Good reason to turn off the stereo and go to a real live concert." (Milwaukee Sentinel)

Program:

  • Dvorák: String Sextet in A Major, Op. 48 *
  • Shostakovich: Prelude and Scherzo for String Octet, Op. 11
  • Enesco: Octet for Strings in C Major, Op. 7*
* First Coleman Chamber Concert performance

This performance is sponsored, in part, by Jane Caughey.
