Raymond Tischer, viola Armen Ksajikian, cello
Coming to Southern California in late April direct from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Peter Schickele joins the Armadillo String Quartet for the 16th year in a row for another concert of "Music by Peter Schickele". Guest artists oboist Keve Wilson and pianist Guy Hallman will assist the Quartet in presenting five works to entertain, engage and enlighten you.
The concert opens with "Sketchbook", formerly known as "Four Sketches for String Quartet," now with a brand new fifth movement, "Snapshot," in its World Premiere performance. Tischer and Hallman will perform the West Coast Premiere of "Mountain Music II" for viola and piano. A procession of musicians including Peter as narrator will herald "The Emperor's New Clothes," a tale with music for narrator, oboe, violin, viola, cello and piano which will conclude the first half.
Ksajikian opens the second half alone with "Vermillion Suite" for unaccompanied cello, after which the Armadillos will return to conclude the concert with the String Quartet No. 3, "The Four Seasons."
Schickele will offer commentary on the origins and other aspects of his compositions at various points during the program. (And there may be other short surprises from Schickele or the quartet or both!)
Please join us in this evening of merry music making.
