"A powerful individuality of sound matched by an instinctive singularity of musical intention" — The Scotsman

Formed in 2011, the Castalian String Quartet has distinguished itself as one of today's most dynamic young quartets. Appointed the inaugural Hans Keller String Quartet in Residence at the Oxford University Faculty of Music in 2021, it also received the Royal Philharmonic Society's 2019 Young Artists Award.

The name is derived from the Castalian Spring in the ancient city of Delphi. In mythology, the nymph Castalia transformed herself into a fountain to evade Apollo, creating a source of poetic inspiration for all who drink from her waters.

PROGRAM

  • Beethoven – Quartet in B-flat Major, Op. 130
  • Janáček – Quartet No. 1, "Kreutzer Sonata"
  • Mendelssohn – Quartet No. 6 in F minor, Op. 80
