James Michelin Distinguished Visitors Program

Author of The Passion of Tasha Darsky (2008) and The Possibilities (2023) Yael Goldstein-Love will visit Caltech for a reading from her latest novel followed by a conversation with novelist and lecturer in creative writing Edan Lepucki. Goldstein-Love will discuss how science fiction gave her the right metaphor for capturing the psychological experience of becoming a mother, how she struggled to ensure that the physics and neuroscience in the book were always in service of the story rather than the other way around, and why having to use a many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics instead of a hidden variables model almost led her to abandon the project.
